On public speaking

As you can see from that last post, I tend to use my hands when I talk. Of course, that’s only to emphasize a salient point. If you use your hands too much, it may distract from the overall message. See how I sublty use my left hand in a pointing motion when I begin discussing the potential pitfalls of the current economic bailouts and the danger of labeling companies “too big to fail”.

Oh, and to those of you who don’t speak baby, I suggest you learn. It’s third on the list of up and coming languages, behind Spanish and Cantonese. Yes, I understand that baby talk is viewed a difficult language to learn given that it’s a tonal language, but you may be suprised how easy it can be. I believe Rosetta Stone offers some courses in audiotape format.

And remember, the key to any public speaking engagement is a winning smile.
